Hazel Miller and the Collective is one of Colorado's most sought-after bands, led by a performer who has shaped the state's music scene for nearly four decades. Ms. Miller was honored on the floor of the Colorado State Senate in March 2023 and inducted into the Colorado Music Hall of Fame in the summer of 2023 alongside her longtime friends and fellow Colorado legends, Big Head Todd and the Monsters. Over the years, she has shared the stage with Herbie Hancock, Michael McDonald, and Al Green, among many others.
With a voice described as "stunning, moving, and powerful," Ms. Miller has anchored the group through every chapter of its evolution — from The Hazel Miller Band to Hazel Miller and the Collective, the name they adopted in 2020. Their eclectic blend of jazz, R&B, blues, and original music draws audiences of all ages and gets crowds dancing and singing along.
Featuring Brian Mikulich on drums, Coco Brown on lead vocals, Stu MacAskie on keys, Jeff Nathanson on sax and EWI, and Thomas Jefferson on bass and vocals, the band brings a high-energy, lively atmosphere to every stage they take. They've performed at private events, weddings, nightclubs, and some of the largest venues in the state, including major festivals like Jazz in the Park at City Park, Lakewood Amphitheater's Summer of Music, and the Denver Botanic Gardens.
In 2015, Ms. Miller performed the national anthem at the inauguration of Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper, sharing the bill that night with the Lumineers, String Cheese Incident, and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. That same year, she performed at the FIS Alpine Ski Championships in Beaver Creek to an estimated international television audience of 180 million viewers. Her voice can also be heard welcoming travelers as they ride the trains at Denver International Airport.
Her music airs on local radio stations across Colorado and nationally on Sirius and XM Radio's Real Jazz and B.B. King's Bluesstations — a fitting reach for an artist whose career has been celebrated far beyond the state she calls home.ing reach for a career that has been celebrated in Colorado and well beyond for years.
